FREEZE WARNING TIPS:
KEEP YOUR WATER FAUCETS RUNNING! (NOT DRIPPING!) NOT THIS TIME! (SEE OUR PREVIOUS WEATHER POST FOR THURS 12-22-22! – UNBELIEVABLE FREEZING TEMPERATURES, NOT WHAT WE ARE USED TO!)
LEAVE YOUR CABINET DOORS OPEN, ESPECIALLY IF SINKS ARE LOCATED ON AN OUTSIDE WALL.
DIRECT WARM AIR FLOW TO COLD AREAS! ESPECIALLY ON THURS 12-22-22…TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTION ON PIPES LOCATED ON ANY OUTSIDE NORTH WALLS & WEST WALLS! (if you have small space heaters, you may use them to direct warm air flow)
KEEP YOUR THERMOSTAT SET TO THE SAME TEMPERATURE
ELIMINATE ANY OBVIOUS DRAFTS
DISCONNECT, DRAIN, & ROLL ANY HOSES FROM YOUR OUTSIDE FAUCETS
PROTECT YOUR OUTSIDE FAUCETS WITH A FAUCET COVER OR INSULATION (see 2 posts prior to this post for photos & local places to purchase, including Wal-Mart)
OUTSIDE BOX LIDS: METER BOX LID, SHUT OFF/PRESSURE REGULATOR BOX LID, ANY OTHER SHUT OFF BOX LID: MAKE CERTAIN THAT BOX LIDS ARE IN PLACE AND SITTING SNUG ON THEIR BOXES, especially if you know that there is open space under the dirt that may be on top when you open it.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST: LOCATE YOUR SHUT-OFF VALVE!
Every home, especially since 1996, Arkansas State Plumbing Code Requirement: Any & all owners or residents, using city water, are required to have a Pressure Regulator along with their own Shut Off Valve. When you locate your Pressure Regulator, your Shut Off Valve should be connected to it with a Nipple. This set up will be in its own box on your water line between our Water Meter and your Home, but not far from our Water Meter Box. In fact, it could be just inches away. Most are located within 1-2 feet of the Water Meter Box. Your box should be smaller than the Water Meter Box and could be round, square, or rectangular. Many are round with green covers sitting on top of the ground. PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU HAVE A LONG DRIVEWAY, 150′ OR MORE, THEN THIS SET UP WILL BE UP CLOSER TO YOUR HOME, BUT, IN THIS CASE, YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE A SHUT OFF VALVE BY ITSELF OUTSIDE OUR WATER METER BOX AND NOT VERY FAR FROM IT. IN FACT, ON SUPER LONG SERVICE YARD LINES, IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU HAVE A SHUT OFF VALVE INSTALLED EVERY 200 FEET. This is in case you have a water leak on your water service line, you will be able to isolate it quicker and better!
SEE PHOTO BELOW OF AN ACTUAL SET UP OF A PRESSURE REGULATOR CONNECTED TO A SHUT OFF VALVE WITH A BRASS NIPPLE (Note: The “Nipple” does not have to be brass and the Shut Off Valve does not have to be a “Ball Valve”, but they are better in that they won’t rust)
If you are not able to locate your Shut Off Valve, in an emergency situation, please call our after hours phone number for help.
